What is social bookmarking??

delicious.com helps you:

• FIND web sites:
  • Search delicious.com for new web sites
• ORGANIZE your list of web sites:
  • Store links to all your favorite websites online
  • Access your bookmarks from any online computer
  • Add to your account from anywhere
  • Add tags to describe and organize your bookmarks
• NETWORK: 
  • Find others who share your bookmarks (example)
  • Develop a network of people with useful bookmarks (eg: my network)
• REPUBLISH:
  • Use RSS feeds to put your delicious links on other websites & blogs. (eg: nys summer reading)

Ideas for library/school use

• Set up a shared account for group projects, have students add links with annotations and tags
• Students with their own accounts organizing research resources for their own projects.
• Students sharing links with others in their networks.
• Teachers/librarians sharing links for upcoming projects.
• Set up an account to feed new links to a web page or wiki page (or to RSS news readers). Creates a "live subject guide" - when links are added to delicious.com, they appear on the web page, wiki, or in the rss reader.

• Creekview HS - Buffy Hamilton uses this account to gather links for many different school projects and reuses the links in other places. eg: Election 2008 links appear on a Pageflakes pagecast.
• Cubberley Education Library Blog with a del.icio.us link cloud
• San Mateo Library  Links arranged by Dewey.
• Thunder Bay PL   They use tag cloud and tag list to lead patrons to their del.icio.us bookmarks. These ‘badges’ can be created with code from your del.icio.us account.
• UTC Lupton Library Links incorporated into web page.
• What I Learned Today (blog) Many blogs include their recent bookmarks on the sidebar of their blog or incorporate them into their blog entries.
• NYS Summer Reading Program  Rather than keeping a long page of links up to date, new sites and resources are added to a del.icio.us account and they appear on this page automatically.
